Ramadan 2027: Expected Dates & a Simple Family Preparation Guide

Ramadan has a way of arriving faster than we expect. One week we’re talking about it; the next, we’re setting alarms for suhoor and wondering where our plans went. A little preparation changes everything – especially when children are part of the journey.

Ramadan 1448 AH begins

~ Feb 8, 2027

Laylat al-Qadr (odd nights)

~ Feb 27 – Mar 8

Eid al-Fitr

~ Mar 9–10, 2027

Dates are astronomical estimates. The exact start depends on the sighting of the new moon and on your local masjid or Islamic council – always confirm with your community.

A four-week countdown

4 weeks before

Set your intentions

  • Write three personal goals (Quran, Taraweeh, charity)
  • Choose one family goal – a new Surah to learn together
  • Begin a few voluntary fasts, such as Mondays and Thursdays

3 weeks before

Organize your Quran

  • Pick your reading plan (one Juz a day completes the Quran)
  • Tab your Mushaf so you can jump to each Juz instantly
  • Print a reading tracker for each family member

2 weeks before

Prepare your home

  • Create a small prayer and Quran corner
  • Plan simple suhoor and iftar menus
  • Set aside your charity budget for the month

Last week

Get the children excited

  • Decorate together and hang a Ramadan countdown
  • Prepare a “good deeds jar” for daily acts of kindness
  • Teach the dua for breaking the fast
Quran tabs marking the first Surahs of a Mushaf
Tab each Juz before Ramadan – the whole family will know where today’s reading begins.

A simple Quran reading plan

To complete the Quran in 30 days, read one Juz per day – about 20 pages. Divided after each prayer, that’s only four or five pages at a time: after Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha.

Make it visible

Mark the first page of each Juz with a blank tab. Each morning you’ll know exactly where today’s reading begins.

Involving children, at every age

3–5

Little ones

Color a tracker, learn “Bismillah” before iftar, help set the table.

6–9

Growing learners

Try half-day fasts, learn one dua per week, join a few rakahs of Taraweeh at home.

10+

Young believers

Set their own Quran goal, lead the family in a short recitation, choose a charity to support.

The last ten nights

Laylat al-Qadr is “better than a thousand months” (Surah Al-Qadr 97:3). Seek it in the odd nights of the last ten days with extra prayer, Quran and dua – especially the supplication taught by the Prophet ﷺ:

Dua for Laylat al-Qadr

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul-‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni

“O Allah, You are Pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.”
